Is your light stand loose? Over time and use the stand's grip starts slipping and the light no longer stays up high where you need it? Or maybe you bought a new stand, set it up and put a light on there to find the height of the light slowly going down from where you set it...
The locking mechanism on light stands can loosen up over time and sometimes the factory just doesnt have them set tight enough to hold up your lights. But they can be easily fixed and adjusted to whatever tension you need.

Use a 10mm* socket and tighten the nut (clock-wise) to your desired tension, start with 1/4 rotations and test the tension. | Make sure you use your thumb to hold the thumb release lever in place while tightning to prevent the lever from spinning. |
Using a 10mm* socket wrench, you can tighten and adjust to your desired tension. Hold the release lever in place with your thumb and tighten the nut (clock-wise) or loosen the nut (counter clock-wise) in 1/4 or 1/8 turns, testing frequently, until you reach the desired tension for you lights, hand strength and comfort level.
Because these are moving parts, you may need to re-adjust the tension over time. You can use a blue threadlocker (medium strength) to help minimize the loosening over time, while still being able to adjust it later as needed.
*Notes:
- • The current generation of Fotodiox 8' & 10' standard stands use an 8mm socket, previous generations of light stands may use a different size.
- • The current generation of Fotodiox 6' standard & 2.1m reflector stands use a combination of a Philips screw and/or a metric #3 Hex Key, however the principle idea remains the same.
- • If your socket wall is too thick, it may not fit inside the recessed nut area, a different socket with a thinner wall may then need to be used.
